My name is Claire and I am a full time, freelance SEO consultant, digital marketer and web developer based in Baldock, North Hertfordshire. I have always had a dream of working for myself on the things that I love and am good at and in 2015 I took the plunge and set up my own business.
I left university with a first class degree in molecular biology and genetics and naturally went on to work within the scientific industry. I love science and it will always be a passion of mine but I realised that what I truly loved about it was the research. Spending hours pulling together information and using it to support or dismiss a theory. Reading about new techniques or technology and then formulating a plan of action drawing on all this information in order to achieve the best possible results. Working in a laboratory was great in terms of ‘hands on’ science but left very little time for the bits about it that I loved the most. Then, completely by chance I was introduced by a friend to the concept of SEO. I was instantly intrigued and excited and began reading books, blogs, listening to podcasts and basically anything else I could get my hands on. It was like a lightbulb switched on inside my head. I understood it! I could see why things would work or wouldn’t work. There are so many people out there with great businesses but they are struggling simply because they don’t know how to reach their future customers online or how to make sure their website gets found and ranked by Google.
Almost as soon as I began learning about SEO I wanted to test out what I knew and so began learning about web design & development. I was lucky enough to have a few friends with their own businesses who were more than happy to let me build new or work on their existing websites for them. I was really enjoying what I was doing but most of all I was getting results! I love results! I especially love seeing great results off the back of something I am responsible for. The more results I was getting the more it spurred me on to learn, learn and learn. I started to wonder if this was something that I could make a career of. I had a good job already but often I found it hard to juggle it with being a good mum and being there for my kids. If I could make a living out of doing this, doing something that I love but that also enabled me to also be around more for my children then didn’t I owe it to myself to give it a go? With the support of all the people closest to me I took a massive leap of faith, handed in my notice and set up Long Game Digital. I have never looked back. I love what I do and I am good at it. I have worked on websites and with people from so many different fields. For every new website I build or work on I not only get to put into place what I know about SEO but I also get to research a whole new area of business. This means I am constantly expanding my mind and my knowledge about things I would have never come across had I not decided to do this.
